Are you going to join us for the Bloomsday 2026 Gibraltar and La Línea celebrations? The event is kicking off at the Alameda Gardens, Gibraltar, at 11.00am, where everyone who is evenly mildly curious about James Joyce’s book, Ulysses, and its Llanita character, Molly Bloom, will gather for a short recited at Molly Bloom’s statue - perfect starting point. We’ll then meander down to the local bookstore, BOOKgem, whose staff will kindly be serving up a free welcome drink and where local Joyce expert, Mr Charles Durante, will talk a bit about this absolute giant of literature and his seminal work that we celebrate today. Then we’re heading off the The Clipper at Irish Town for pie ‘n’ mash Irish style washed down with Guinness. You can join at 11 or along the way, or later, across the border in La Línea at the Museo Cruz Herreras where festivities will continue with an original play written for the occasion by Gibraltarian writer, Rebecca Calderon, and then rounded off late into the night with music and song and lots more Guiness at the pub, Milly Bloom. I’ll be giving a reading at The Clipper, possibly after a large swig of the black stuff, so come up, join in and say ‘hi!’
